The Fun
and Adventure of Bird Watching
Bird watching provides the opportunity to enjoy a hobby from
the comfort of an individual's own back yard or treks through
mountains and forests around the world.

It is not at all unusual for serious bird watching
enthusiasts to travel the world over in search of many
different rare species of birds, enduring tough weather and
terrain just to catch a glimpse of these species in their
natural habitat.
For those interested in the bird
watching, there are some pieces of equipment that are essential
in order to thoroughly enjoy this hobby.
The first essential is to buy a pair of
binoculars so that the birds can be magnified for
identification. The binoculars can be bought in a variety of
different price ranges, with the top of the line starting at
more than five hundred dollars, the middle of the road costing
under five hundred and the value line costing under one hundred
dollars. If the bird watcher wears glasses, it is
important to make sure that the binoculars can be used
with the glasses so that it does not become cumbersome to
take off the glasses whenever the bird is viewed, which is
not a feasible option for those with very bad eyes. In
addition, the right magnification and lighting should be
chosen for the situation. The higher the first number on a
pair of binoculars, the higher the magnification so that
the bird can be seen more clearly. The higher the second
number, the more light is able to get through the outside
lens so that the colors and details of the bird can be
seen clearly by the bird watcher.
Another important piece of equipment is the bird
watching guide book which tells individuals who are
just starting out how to go about looking for different species
of birds. In addition, the individual should buy a field guide
for the birds that are located in the area in which
he is going to look for them. This field guide lists the
different varieties of birds in the different species with
pictures and descriptions so that the individual can pick
out the defining features. Many bird watchers also
bring along notepads or journals in which to log
what species are seen and where on a particular day. In
addition, others bring cameras or sketchpads so that they
can do a pictorial recording of the birds that they see on
that particular bird watching trip.
